New Maximum Comp Rate: The South Carolina Workers' Compensation Commission has approved a 2.5% increase to the maximum compensation rate for 2013. The approval happened at the Commission's December business meeting.

The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (formerly the South Carolina Employment Security Commission) has certified the average weekly wage in South Carolina for the period July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012 was $743.72.  That means for accidents occurring on or after January 1, 2013, the maximum weekly compensation rate will be $743.72.

The maximum weekly compensation rate in 2012 was $725.47. The new rate increases the maximum weekly compensation rate by $18.25; about 2.5% greater than the rate in 2012.  In 2013, an individual earning $1,115.52 or more per week will be at the maximum weekly compensation rate.

Payment Allowances for Medicare Part B Drugs:  The Commission also posted a listing of payment allowance limits for Medicare Part B drugs.  The listing is effective January 1, 2013 through March 31, 2013. Click here to view the list.

  1. An increase doesn't seem like much, but to many that will actually receive it, it is.
